Biography & Research Interest:
Dr. Ana-Luiza Sayao, BSc, MD, FRCPC, is currently a Neurologist at Providence Health Care and the University of British Columbia Multiple Sclerosis Clinic. She completed her residency training at UBC and Royal College board certification in Neurology in 2009. She then completed a Fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis at UBC in 2010 with a research focus on clinical epidemiology; as well as a mini-Fellowship in Electroencephalography in 2014 and successfully passed the Canadian EEG certification exam in 2015. She is actively involved in education of MS Fellows, Neurology residents and medical students and is the St. Paul’s hospital Physician Lead for the Peoples and Teams Pillar.
She was the adult Neurology Lead in the BC Pediatric Transition Care Project where she and colleagues created transition care plans for young persons with neurological disorders including Multiple Sclerosis and other Neuro-inflammatory conditions. She has a large MS and general neurology practice where she sees patients with many neurological conditions including Epilepsy, Stroke, Parkinson’s, Headache (including Botox treatments) etc. She was the medical advisor for the movie “Brain On Fire”, and has written excerpts in books published by her patients. She provides outreach Neurological Care to the Yukon Territories and has championed the implementation of therapies and multidisciplinary services for MS patients in the Yukon.”
