The Division is involved in numerous specialty programs relating to various neurological disorders including Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuroethics, Neuromuscular Diseases, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Neuro-Oncology, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Parkinson’s disease, Epilepsy, and basic neuroscience. Each program is involved in various clinical, research and outreach activities.
Research Overview
Neurology research is conducted under the umbrella of UBC Faculty of Medicine and affiliated teaching hospitals and their Research Institutes.
Research conducted at UBC Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital comes under the health partner of Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute. A significant amount of research is conducted through one of its primary programs, the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health and the Brain Research Centre at UBC Hospital.
Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute is one of Canada’s top funded health sciences research centres. The institute is the research arm of Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and the health partner of the University of British Columbia.. It encompasses three research-intensive institutions, Vancouver General Hospital, and UBC Hospital, as well as Richmond Hospital, Lions Gate Hospital, and public health agencies in Vancouver.
The Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health and the Brain Research Centre are located at UBC Hospital, comprise more than 200 investigators with multidisciplinary expertise in neuroscience research ranging from the test tube, to the bedside, to industrial spin-offs. The centre is a partnership of UBC Faculty of Medicine and VCH Research Institute.
